How should I prepare for a spray tan?

Remove any unwanted hair a couple of days before your sunless tanning session. This is especially important if you tend to wax your legs and underarms because it gives time for your open pores to close up. If fake tan is applied immediately after a wax it can lead to a spotty finish and possible streaks. Be sure to moisturise as well in order to hydrate the top layer of skin cells that will react with the clever darkening ingredients in spray tan solution.

Can I have the spray tan while I’m pregnant?

Yes, spray tans are also absolutely fine after your first trimester. Be sure to mention your pregnant at time of booking so we can adjust your treatment if necessary. It’s best to wait until the first three months are over as this is a sensitive stage of pregnancy where extra caution is required with all types of products that are applied directly onto the skin.

Is it safe?

Yes it is completely safe! The active ingredient in fake tan, called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), is non-toxic and isn’t absorbed by the skin during the tanning process. This colourless sugar darkens the uppermost layer of the skin by interacting with the proteins and amino acids on the epidermis. This is highlighted in the way that a fake tan fades away slowly as the skin cells undergo their natural regeneration process and flake off the body.

Can you have a spray tan straight after botox?

We’d advise waiting 48-72 hours after your botox treatment before spray tanning to allow your skin to settle down.

In some cases, botox can result in redness, swelling and slight bruising over the treatment area, particularly among those who suffer with skin sensitivities. Also, because it’s administered via a needle you’ll likely have tiny pin pricks on your face that will need time to close up. Tanning over these areas before they heal could lead to a ‘spotty’ or blotchy finish rather than an even, seamless glow.

How long will my tan last?

Your tan will last between 5 and 7 days depending on your daily skincare regime and lifestyle. A sunless tan, just like a natural tan from the sun, fades as your skin sheds its dead cells. The more you look after your tan, the longer it will last and the better the fade-off will be. Our gorgeous, award-winning Gradual Glowing Self Tan is a DHA rich moisturiser, which will help maximise the longevity of your tan by adding moisture and adding extra colour.
